Preventive Child Healthcare

Speech and Hearing Screening test Campaign

Prayash Institute of Special Education and Research (PISER)

Objectives of the Project

The objective of the Speech and Hearing Screening Test Program under the SHICU initiative is to ensure early identification and intervention for children aged 4 to 14 who are experiencing speech, hearing, or communication difficulties. Many children enrolled in the SHICU program were found to be unresponsive or disengaged during regular educational activities. To address this, a collaborative effort was made with Proyash Institute of Special Education and Research (PISER), a specialized institution under the patronization of the Bangladesh Army, to conduct comprehensive screening of 1,000 children. The goal was to detect and diagnose potential impairments at an early stage so that affected children could receive timely treatment and care.

Brief Overview of the Project

Through this program, approximately 100 children were identified as needing urgent medical attention and special educational support. These children were referred to Dhaka CMH for further treatment with the assistance of Proyash. The initiative not only improved access to healthcare and special education services but also raised awareness among parents and educators about the importance of early intervention. By integrating specialized support into a community-based education model, the program aims to promote inclusive learning and ensure that all children, regardless of their abilities, have the opportunity to thrive academically and socially.
