Advancement of CBOs’ platform to restore rights and entitlements of the left-behind communities

UNDP Bangladesh Lead Mukti Kushtia

Objectives of the Project

The objective of this project is to strengthen and advance the capacity of the existing Community-Based Organization (CBO) platform in Manikganj Municipality to effectively advocate for and restore the rights and entitlements of left-behind communities, ensuring their meaningful inclusion in local and national development processes.

Over a 10-month period, the intervention will focus on empowering the CBO platform to engage strategically with government institutions, service providers, and other stakeholders to address systemic inequalities, discrimination, and exclusion faced by marginalized groups. The project aims to enhance the platform’s ability to facilitate access to social safety nets, education, health, and protection services, while also fostering leadership within the communities to sustain these efforts. A key focus will be on preventing and mediating gender-based violence, reducing the prevalence of drug abuse, and promoting social cohesion.

Special emphasis will be placed on addressing the unique vulnerabilities of women, children, and adolescents in these communities, ensuring they are protected from violence, bullying, and social stigma. By leveraging the platform’s existing trust, experience, and strong local networks, the project seeks to build a sustainable mechanism that enables left-behind communities to claim their constitutional rights, participate in governance, and live with dignity and equality.
