CLIMATE CHANGE AWARENESS PROGRAM

a) Organized awareness workshop for transport drivers to control noise and air pollution

The workshop was held on May 26, 2023 at the Drivers Training Center-DTC Auditorium in Purbachal, Dhaka. The workshop was organized under the integrated and participatory way to control air and noise pollution. At the event, more than 200 transport workers pledged not to blow horns unnecessarily to control noise pollution.

b) Organized a Regional Summit on “Youth for Clean Year (YCA)”, 2012

From 08 January to 12 January,2012 a regional summit was jointly organized by Eakok, SAYEN, NFYOB, UNEP, CEE India and Department of Environment  of Bangladesh. Venue was Biam Aditorium, Dhaka, Bangladesh & one day field visit was at Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) Gazipur

In 1998, UNEP RRC.AP together with SEI drew attention to the possibility of impacts of transboundary air pollution in South Asia. This initiative led to the adoption of the Malé Declaration by eight participating countries – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, at the Seventh Governing Council of SACEP. The initiative was funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) as part of the Regional Air Pollution in Developing Countries (RAPIDC)

c) Day long clean-up program

Day long clean-up program were held at Lalbagh Forte, Dhaka, organized by the United Nations Information Center (UNIC)-Dhaka, United Nations Volunteers (UNV), Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO), National Federation of Youth Orgnisations in Bangladesh (NFYOB), National Youth Council Bangladesh (NYCB), Dhakabashi Organization, Eakok, Hope87-Bangladesh, Azad Muslim Welfare Complex, United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB), Rotaract Club of Notredame College and some other leading NGOs.

Dr. Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, MP was present in the occasion as the chief guest while Mr. Stefan Priesner, UNDP Country Director,Bangladesh, Mr. Kazi Ali Reza, UNIC, Mr. Dulal Biswas, President, NFYOB,  Md. Abdul Wahed, Executive Director, Eakok, Mr. Ramoni Mohan  Chakma, National UNV Coordinator were present as the special guests. Mr. Md. Azizur Rahman, Director General, Department of Youth Development presided over the occasion.

After the cleanup at the in and outside of the Lalbagh Forte area the cleaning team including the guests went to Azad Muslim Welfare Complex for the closing of the event. Mr.Md. Abdul Wahed, Executive Director, Eakok Attomanobik Unnayan Sangstha said in his speech that International Youth Day was first proposed in 1991 to promote the benefits that the youth bring into the world and their positive works. It is observed globally and youth organizations hold various activities including youth events that tackle matters related to education, employment and other issues relevant to the youth. They hold sporting events, demos and exhibitions featuring young people’s accomplishments. He mentioned that in Bangladesh, the Ministry of Youth and various youth organizations creating real opportunities for young people in developing activities and employment in the country.
